Thirty-six Dance Party

  Thirty-six, Dance Party

There's a saying that goes "new officials take office and set three fires", the newly established student union of our grade didn't have three fires, but it did make two small sparks.

A spark is the preparation for a grade publication. The content includes miscellaneous articles, poems, and news reports on dormitory hygiene competitions or other competitive events, as well as propaganda about good deeds among classmates. There are also exchanges of learning experiences, such as medical mnemonics or English writing tips. This publication is named "旭日" (representing the 90th grade), a quarterly with 16 pages, published twice a semester and four times a year. In addition to soliciting contributions from the entire grade, some people with writing, calligraphy, and painting talents were selected from each class to form an editorial committee responsible for reviewing manuscripts, printing, proofreading, etc. The overall idea is not bad, mobilizing the enthusiasm of classmates. Lin Fanghua also encouraged Zhou Yu to write a prose piece and submit it, which was adopted and even made her one of the editors due to her excellent writing skills.

Another fire is that every Saturday night, a dance party is held on the second floor of a cafeteria. In this era, dancing has become the most important social and entertainment activity in universities. However, there are not many dance parties held within the medical university campus, mainly because the dance culture is not as popular here, and also due to the lack of suitable venues. According to some students who often go to other universities to dance, those universities have professional sound and lighting equipment in their dance halls, which are no different from outside commercial dance halls. The new student union's plan to host a dance party this time has multiple purposes, not only to enrich everyone's extracurricular life and allow students who love dancing to stop going to other schools, but also to help each class earn some class fees. Because the organizers of the dance party adopted a rotating host format, where each class takes turns being responsible for one dance party, and all income from ticket sales goes into that class's class fees.

Lin Fanghua, as the life committee member, has been actively discussing the hosting measures with the class monitor and team branch secretary since she knew about the dance party. She had been eagerly waiting for the weekend when it was their turn to host. And of course, she had also made good preparations for this.

Two days ago, she had someone write a few posters and post them at the entrance of the school cafeteria and several other universities. She also specially told her brother Lin Zhengyu to bring people to support her when the time comes.

That afternoon, she and several class cadres moved the audio equipment needed for the dance party from the grade office to the second floor of the cafeteria and tried it out without any problems. As for the tapes, she also reminded Dai Ping to carefully select many soft and hard, complete with dance music tapes, and one by one rewound them and numbered them. As for the drinks, soda, snacks and other things that would be sold at the party, this was also an important source of income, and she had already brought several boxes from the market with the boys. It can be said that everything is ready, only waiting for the east wind.

It was almost six o'clock after finishing all this, and the dance party wouldn't start until seven. Fanghua hastily solved her dinner in the cafeteria and remembered that the student union's dance ticket was still in the dormitory, so she hurried back to the dormitory to get it.

As soon as she pushed open the door, she couldn't help but laugh at the scene inside. The sisters in the dormitory were all excitedly busy dressing up. Some borrowed skirts, some borrowed coats, some borrowed veils, some borrowed hairpins, some borrowed hair gel, some borrowed eyebrow pencils, and some borrowed lipsticks. The room was bustling with excitement, just like the backstage of a theater performance.

Hehe, these girls have just learned to dance for a short time and are in the midst of their dancing craze. Since it's our class's own party, we must show off our hostess skills! We should definitely dress up nicely!

Lin Fanghua watched her sisters with great interest, infecting them with the true vitality of youth, while reminding them a few words.

"Yang Qian, you look terrible in this bright red windbreaker. Do you think you're Jiang Jie?"

"Guo Ling, your face is thin, and tying your hair back makes it look even thinner. It's better to let it down!"

"Boss, this white sweater is great, but the yellowish-brown skirt below doesn't match at all! And those shoes won't do either! Hurry up and change!"

"Wang Ju, your hair is too plain with just a clear soup and noodles. Come on, let me tie a ribbon for you... hmm, that's much better!"

  "Liao Shan, you... Perfect!"

Although she is not a fashionista, her 20 years of experience have given her a keen sense of style. After some adjustments, the sisters' appearances were greatly improved, and they themselves were very satisfied. Lin Fanghua, on the other hand, didn't even have time to change out of her usual outfit: a white blouse, pink sweater, dark blue jeans, and white sneakers. Her dressing style has always been simple, never wearing more than three colors at once.

She took a look at her watch and saw that it was almost seven o'clock. She quickly grabbed the dance tickets and called out to her sisters to set off together for the dance hall.

"In the first year, one is close to their parents; in the second year, they are distant; by the third and fourth years, they have forgotten about their father and mother." Looking at the male and female students entering the venue one after another, Fang Hua couldn't help but think of this popular saying that was circulating around the university.

Although this year's dance party was hosted by our grade, the number of freshmen who came to dance was still less than that of seniors. Moreover, compared with those 87, 88 and 89 grades' seniors in the venue, the freshmen looked much more immature and inexperienced. (Seniors before 87 grade lived in West Yard and generally didn't attend activities in East Yard.)

The girls are still okay, with some lipstick, drawing eyebrows and eye shadow, they don't lose to the senior girls. Those boys who usually dress casually, today most of them still wear their usual jackets, sportswear, etc., almost no improvement, and their dance moves are even more awkward and stiff. Still a group of young and inexperienced kids! However, I believe that in this university, these little boys will gradually mature.

Around 7:30, more and more people came. Lin Zhengyu also brought in Zhou Baozi and four other boys and three girls. The boys were all his good friends from the Physical Education Institute. The girls, however, were all Zhou Baozi's good "sisters" from Medical University, including some from Public Health, Pharmacy, and even a girl from the Class of '89 in the Medical School. Lin Fanghua thought that since Zhou Baozi could play with so many girls, they probably really were just very good friends.

Lin Fanghua himself was in charge of selling soda water, so he took out his own pocket money to invite everyone to be a guest, and fulfilled the host's courtesy. After chatting for a while, they went down to have fun.

The young men of the Physical Education Institute, although mostly wearing sportswear, are tall and majestic, with a unique charm and vitality that is rare among medical students. Even Zhou Qifeng, nicknamed "Little Fatty", only has a slightly rounder face and waist, but not like Lin Zhengyu's standard inverted triangle athlete physique. In fact, his rough and heroic appearance is the embodiment of the Kangba Han people's "majestic and powerful" spirit, with its own unique charm.

This group of people was very popular in the dance pool, and some girls even took the initiative to ask them to dance. Although at first, Lin Fanghua told the girls in the class that today they should take the initiative to invite boys to dance, to avoid a cold scene at the dance party. But later, those who asked the boys from the Physical Education Institute to dance were mostly not "托" from the class, but really took the initiative on their own.

Seeing this situation, Lin Fanghua was very happy. But seeing the soda that hadn't decreased much, she became a little worried again. Hopefully it's because the dance party had just started and everyone wasn't thirsty yet!

After the lights were turned on, Lin Fanghua estimated that those who wanted to come should have arrived, so she ran to the entrance where Liang Jiahui was selling tickets and asked: "How many tickets have been sold?"

He looked at the remaining dance ticket in his hand and said: "174!"

  "Not bad, huh!"

Fang Hua turned back and found her brother, whispering a few words. Lin Zhengyu raised his right hand, wearing black fingerless gloves, and patted his sister's head: "Alright, everything is ready, don't worry!" Then he beckoned with one hand, and two young men from the Physical Education Institute followed over, and the three of them began to warm up.

Lin Fanghua rushed to Zhang Yong and Dai Ping, who were in charge of the sound, and made an OK gesture. Zhang Yong understood and gradually reduced the volume of the music, and the people who were dancing slowly stopped and walked to the chairs at the edge of the field to rest.

What does Lin Fanghua want her brother to do? Smart readers, have you guessed it? To find out what happens next, let's wait and see in the next episode!
