After about ten minutes of walking down some stairs and through four hallways, Lincoln had made it to the main lobby where he saw some people sitting on some blue chairs. One security guard who was looking extremely tired, as the bzer he was wearing still had creases in it, but it didn't seem like he noticed or cared. Five people were in line in the reception area. Two doctors were talking to each other while waiting for the lift, and there were some other people either walking in or walking out of the entrance. "Oh my god," a little boy who was sitting on one of the blue chairs with a cast on his right arm says. He was speechless as he saw Lincoln walk across the lobby and wait in the small queue at the reception desk.
*His sister lets out a small sigh* "What now?" Darcy asks with her phone in her hand as she was texting her boyfriend.
"I-I-It's him. Lincoln Perkins." The boy states in an excited tone, as his heartbeat beats super fast with giddiness.
"Who?" His sister asks, confused as to why he was so happy.
"Lincoln Perkins. He is a famous fighter. He has never won a tournament but he's still pretty cool." The boy says loudly in a joyful tone as he quickly takes out his phone to take a picture of him. Meanwhile Lincoln just stands in the queue with a smile on his face as he hears what the boy has said. The boy then points his phone at him taking multiple pictures in rapid accession of Lincoln without even thinking.
"Stop that" -his sister grabs his phone from him- "how many times have I told you not to do that. That is really rude," his sister says as she holds his phone high in the air so that he can't reach it.
"Give me back my phone!" The little boy demands as he stretches over his sister to get the phone from her but fails to do so.
"Will you stop?" The boy continues to reach for his phone. "Or do I need to call mom and tell her how rude you are being?" As soon as she says that, he stops trying to get his phone back. "I'll give you back your phone when we get home okay?" She says in a firm tone, leaving no room for negotiation. He thought about how he would get his phone back but after some time he couldn’t think of a way of winning it back.
"Fine." The boy replies in a whiny tone. He then looks straight forward to see that Lincoln was looking at him. The boy then gulps hard in panic and breaks eye contact with him quickly. Wait a sec this is so not cool. I should probably wave back at him. but how should I do it? should I do it with a smile? He shakes his head from side to side like he was erasing that idea out of his head after he had done a py-by-py of what would happen. Nah that's not cool at all. Maybe, maybe I should sit in a cool way and then wave at him. He erases that idea out of his head as well. Nah, that's not cool as well. Wait sec what if we don't make eye contact with each other again? He pauses. "If that happens, I will miss my chance to say hi to him. I can't miss this chance." He whispers to himself.
"What are you whispering about?" His sister asks him as she looks at him in the corner of her eye but he doesn't respond. The next thing she hears is the sound of him breathing in and out slowly but very loudly, releasing the childish minty toothpaste that he had used to brush his teeth with that morning. Seeing her brother doing this she thinks. What the hell is this boy doing now? After a minute of him breathing in and out slowly, he takes a deep breath and quickly starts breathing in and out. To her, it was like he was trying to blow up a balloon but failing to understand that it had a hole in it. Now seeing him do this for what she considers was a long time she asks "Are you okay?"
"Shut up, I'm working myself up," the boy responds before he continues his process to work himself up.
"Huh? Actually, I don't care. Just stop." Once his sister said that he stopped breathing rapidly. Surprised by how fast he stopped she thinks Huh. That was easy. But he didn't stop because she told him to. He stopped because he was ready to wave back at Lincoln. After some time they met eyes once again and with all the boy's courage, he waved at him, and Lincoln waved back with a warm smile which made the boy giddy inside again. Trying to keep his cool he quickly picks up a comic book that was muddled in between some newspapers and pretends to read it. "Hey, Darcey."
"Hmmm. What is it?" She asks in an annoyed tone while in the middle of scrolling through her for you page on Fre.
"Was I cool just now?"
"Huh?"
"Right now. Was the way I waved at him cool or even impressive? Or was it just ordinary?" He clenches to the comic harder and harder, scared of her response. "Please don't tell me it was just ordinary," he says as he flips to the next page, while nearly tearing the previous page out with beads of sweat now on his forehead.
"I don't know. I wasn't looking. Why were you trying to impress a girl or something?" Darcey asks.
"No, you idiot. I was waving at Lincoln." He says.
"Who's Lincoln?"
*He sighs* "Again as I said. His Famous Fighter. He's been in so many fighting tournaments. Like Siege, Broken Pacts, Eclipse, etcetera, etcetera. Any arena or fighting tournament you can think of he's been in for the st six years. Well upset for BR X that took pce two years ago, but he was pretty beaten up from Siege and Broken Pacts that year, so I don't bme him. B-But he was pretty cool in Siege. And Broken Pacts too! Oh my god, he was soooooo cool in those tournaments. Don't get me wrong. He's cool in general but he was just." He pauses and takes a deep breath. "Oooooooo. Just so cool in those tournaments of that year," says the boy as he shakes with excitement like he is having a sugar rush as he reminisces.
"Uh-huh. I see." Darcey says pretending to understand what her brother was talking about. "So where is this Lincoln person you speak of?"
"Are you blind? He's over there. In the line with the light blue eyes and bck hair. And is wearing a bck hoodie with the astronaut on the back of it." Once Darcey's brother gives her a brief description of what Lincoln looks like, she looks in the line for reception desks and spots him. Even though he was wearing a baggy hoodie she could tell that he was slim and in shape. His muscles weren't massive to the point that they would rip his clothes with the slightest of movement, but they were small and refined, unlike her boyfriend. Not being able to see his face clearly from where she was sitting, she thinks. I wonder if his face is scuffed up from fighting all the time. While she was having that thought, Lincoln turned to face her and her brother and gave another smile. Now that had turned to face them she could see his short curly bck hair and light blue eyes. Huh. His face isn't as scuffed as I thought. She then goes back to looking at her phone.
"Do you think he will sign my cast if I ask him?" Once the boy asks this she looks up from her phone once more to look at Lincoln again and she replies by saying.
"I think so, I mean from the way you have been acting. And how loud you have been I think he realized that you are a fan. So why don't you go and ask him?"
"I-I can't." The boy pauses. "I'm too scared," the boy responds nervously.
"If it helps you from pissing pants, I could ask him for you if you want," Darcey asks before she slips her phone into her front pocket and starts to stand up, but before she can fully rise from her seat, her brother pulls on her arm and says.
"No no. It wouldn't be cool if you went over there to ask for me. I-I-I'll go and ask him myself." Even those he said that. He didn't move at all from his spot.
"Aren't you going to go?" she asks while smirking.
"I am. I am. I'm just giving it some time," he replies.
"You know if you wait for too long it's going to be Christmas."
"Shut up," he snaps. He then takes a deep breath, stands up, and starts to approach him. Each step closer made him feel like he was about to pass out. After six steps he turns back around and sits back down.
"Wooooooooow. That was very cool. I think that was the coolest thing I've seen today. I think that was cooler than that one time when you rode your bike down the hill and into the river. Boy did you smell on the way back home," Darcey says in a sarcastic tone.
"Leave me alone," the boy responds, with his face turning red by the second, as he was extremely embarrassed which made his sister and Lincoln ugh in sync.
