Chapter 1 Prologue
In front of the floor-to-ceiling windows of a white Western-style house, a couple seemed to be saying something...
"Husband, how is Si Rou doing now?"
"I don't know, I hope everything is fine. When we were entrusted to take care of Yueyue, she said she would come back for her, but it's been six years now, will something happen to her?"
"She's really pitiful, we were so happy when we were young, but she grew up to be... Waaahhh... The woman said, sobbing sadly."
"Alright, Hui Ni, don't cry anymore. At least her child is fine now. Let's not be so pessimistic. Maybe Si Rou will still come back for her." The man said while handing the woman a tissue.
"Uh, you're right. Yueyue still doesn't know about her biological parents, and before Sihui comes back, we must keep it a secret from her, absolutely cannot let her find out." The woman said while wiping away tears.
"Uh, she is our daughter now. Since Si Rou handed her over to us, we will take good care of her before she comes back." The man said with his hands on the woman's shoulders.
"Hmm..." The woman nodded lightly.
Outside the door, a seven or eight-year-old boy was sticking his ear to the door, secretly listening to something. At this time, on the other side of the corridor, an adorable girl who looked about the same age as him was walking towards this direction. "Brother, what are you doing?" The girl asked curiously. The boy quickly put his index finger to his mouth and made a 'shh' gesture. The girl immediately understood her brother's meaning and tiptoed over to the boy's side, imitating her brother's actions by sticking her ear to the door and secretly listening in.
In the room
"Yueyue is just like her mother when she was young, lively and lovely, clever and quick-witted." The woman held a slightly yellowed photo, gently wiping it. On the photo were two girls in school uniforms, embracing each other intimately.
"Yes, how can Shi Rou and Ji's child be unlovable or unintelligent?" The man said as he gazed at the photo.
Outside the door
"Brother, what are Dad and Mom talking about?" The girl looked at the boy in confusion.
"Shh... let's go..." The boy pulled the girl's hand and ran towards the end of the corridor, they ran all the way to the garden and collapsed on the lawn, panting.
"Leaves, don't tell anyone what we just heard, it's better if you can forget, got it?" the boy panted to the girl.
"Uh-huh, Yezi knows." The girl nodded her head, her eyes twinkling like the stars in the sky.
"Shh, don't tell anyone." The boy even emphasized 'anyone'.
"Okay, so this is a secret between you and me, brother. Let's make a pinky promise, absolutely don't tell anyone." The girl said as she quickly stretched out her little thumb.
The boy nodded and also stretched out his own little thumb, two fingers hooked together, looking at each other with a smile...
They lay on the lawn, quietly gazing at the sky, and the boy seemed to be thinking of something, then smiled silently.
