Chapter 64

  Chapter 64

It happened to be a weekend when He Shouci called over and Yuan Zhi was fishing with Lin Ke at the artificial breeding farm.

"Anything wrong?" He taught Lin Ke how to use this fishing rod hand in hand.

"Where is it?" The background noise from He Shou Si's side was quite lively.

  Fishing.

  "Alone?"

Yuan Zhi smiled and said, "No!" He put the feed into Lin Ke's hands and whispered, "Spread it out."

A loud, piercing horn sound, "You're with that woman again!"

Yuan Zhi took a few steps back and said, "If you have something to say, spit it out quickly. I don't have time to chat with you."

"Yuan Zhi, I'm giving you a gift today. If you don't want to lose face in front of others, hurry back and get out of my sight!"

"You're off the hook!" he said casually.

"Don't regret it later!" The call was then cut off.

Yuan Zhi casually put his phone in his pocket and walked back to Lin Ke's side, "How does it feel?"

"It's okay, but I've never fished before."

"It's okay, once you're born, twice you're familiar. Today we'll catch two or three fish and that's enough. Then we can have a barbecue, I've brought all the tools."

Lin Ke turned her head to glance at the off-road vehicle not far away, pursed her lips and smiled slightly. Her bright eyes with a slight arc made Yuan Zhi stunned for a moment. He raised his hand to gently sweep across her eye corners, and the lines on his face became even more gentle.

  "How beautiful!" he muttered.

Lin Ke knew he was talking about his eyes, Yuan Zhi had stared at her eyes countless times, that kind of suffocating gaze like a whirlpool made people feel exceptionally sad.

Although she didn't think her eyes were particularly distinctive.

He Shou arrived at their location in over ten minutes, it can be imagined how fast the car was just now. The sharp braking sound attracted the attention of people around, Yuan Zhi made a sound, his eyes still staring at the water surface, and whispered: "The fish are all gone!"

There's a lot of weeds here, some have grown to knee height. He Guanshu rushed to where they were sitting, tripped over a stone along the way, and his anger surged up even more due to the sudden embarrassment.

The footsteps behind him were getting closer and closer, Yuan Zhi's mouth curled up with a hint of a smile, and he finally stood up and turned his head around.

"Slow down, be careful not to brake too hard and fall into the river."

"Let's just drop it!" He Guanshu yelled, not caring about the fish in the river at all. He rushed to Yuan Zhi and beckoned him, "Come on, come on, let's change places and talk."

Yuan Zhi raised an eyebrow and said with a hint of disdain, "Do you want to talk about it here? Are you trying to see me lose my composure? I'm giving you this opportunity!"

He Shouci cursed and pointed at him with a trembling finger, "You idiot, something big is going on!"

Yuan Zhi brushed away his hand which was about to poke his own nose, "Speed!"

He Shouci glanced at Lin Ke, who was looking over here with a timid expression, and then turned to Yuan Zhi, who had an air of nonchalance about him. He sneered and said in a voice that all three could hear, with a tone of schadenfreude: "He Song is still alive."

The wind is still blowing, bringing a warm feeling to the face, with fish jumping out of the water's surface here and there, creating ripples, while in the distance the white birch trees stand tall, with sunlight being broken into fragments among their leaves.

Yuan Zhi's face was hidden behind a pair of oversized sunglasses, and the half of his face that was visible showed no expression. The corners of his mouth, which had originally seemed to be smiling, were now slightly downturned. His hands were still casually stuffed into his pockets, and his white dress shirt was open at the collar, revealing a sky blue faded jeans and black boots. He looked stylish and carefree, but he seemed not to have heard anything, showing no reaction whatsoever.

The warm wind kept teasing his soft black hair, the lazy afternoon sunlight fell on him recklessly, it was an ordinary afternoon, as if it was still just an ordinary afternoon.

Not far away, Lin Ke was looking at He Shou Si with confusion. This was the first time she had heard of He Song's two words. She didn't know who this person was or how important he was to Yuan Zhi.

Time passed, and He Shou's triumphant expression slowly dissipated, his eyebrows gathering together. "Hey, did you hear what I said? He Song isn't dead, she's been living not far from us for the past three years, and Gu Wei ran into her on a business trip!"

Yuan Zhi still didn't speak, and after a long while, he pursed his lips and responded faintly with an "oh".

He stared at him in utter incredulity, even starting to wonder if it was his own fault for not expressing himself clearly enough that He Song was still alive.

He stared at Yuan Zhi's tightly clenched jawline and knew he understood, but the reaction he got was just an "oh"?

He Guanshu didn't think he would have such a reaction, but also knew it shouldn't be like this.

He was shocked and couldn't understand, saying: "Yuan Zhi! You... don't you have anything to say? Do you know who He Sheng is? Have you forgotten her?"

Yuan Zhi stiffened and smiled, "Remember, it's good that you're still alive, otherwise what reaction do you think I should have?"

He Guanshu couldn't help but take a step back, his eyes looking at him like a stranger. He was confused about the current situation and inadvertently turned to see Lin Ke's inexplicable face. His brain suddenly exploded like a firework, and he pointed at the innocent woman in disbelief, "Because of her, don't want He Song anymore?"

Yuan Zhi didn't make a sound, standing there quietly and calmly, unruffled.

"What the f**k are you talking about? Don't you want Xiao He anymore? Are you sure you don't want Xiao He? Do you know who Xiao He is? She's your own daughter! Have you gone crazy?"

Who is He Sheng? Is Yuan Zhi's heart and soul, the little kid he has been carefully protecting in his arms, afraid of bumping or colliding with him. How can he not want him? How dare he not want him?

However, Yuan Zhi just stiffly nodded his head to the side, raised his hand and gently pressed his temples, his voice was light as if it would disperse with a blow of wind, "I know, you can go first!"

  Shall we go?

He Shou's eyes were fixed on the handsome and elegant man in front of him, his face filled with sadness and grief. He didn't move, just swallowed hard, his body stiff. After a while, he slowly lowered his head, looking at the small stones mixed with weeds under his feet, muttering to himself: "It's also... after all, two years together wasn't for nothing. Human hearts are the hardest to understand, but with enough time, what can't change? Right? But it's good too, He Shou has someone by his side now, I heard from Gu Wei that he's an excellent man, and these three years have been thanks to him taking care of He Shou."

He nodded and backed away with a slightly unstable mood, raising his hand, "Sorry to disturb you, just pretend I'm full and let you continue!"

Turned around and ran back to the car without looking back, stepped on the accelerator, and drove away with a rumble.

Until the car disappeared with a roar, Yuan Zhi's hand in his pocket was still trembling uncontrollably. He slightly lowered his eyes, and his sharp chin turned pale, leaving only his red lips that seemed to bleed.

Lin Ke put down the fishing rod in his hand and approached him, saying softly, "Mr. Yuan, are you okay?"

Yuan Zhi shook his head, "Nothing's wrong, let's continue."

Then they really started to continue fishing, and the harvest was more than expected. There were more than a dozen fish, just like Yuan Zhi said before. They even moved a frame to roast the fish and eat it. The seasoning was very rich, and the flavor of the fish was naturally good too. He Shou Si's appearance was like an insignificant episode, but if Yuan Zhi could smile, that would be even better.

I always knew Yuan Zhi didn't talk much, but I never thought that in the following half day, our conversation was less than ten fingers can count.

In the late afternoon, Yuan Zhi sent Lin Ke to school.

All the way, Lin Ke occasionally turned his head to look at him, and after a long time, he hesitated and carefully asked: "Yuan Zhi, who is He Sheng that He Shou mentioned just now?"

It's not yet rush hour, and the car is running smoothly. Yuan Zhi stares ahead without reacting, as if he hadn't heard anything.

Lin Ke was slightly disappointed, thinking he wouldn't answer. When he turned his head to look outside the car, the other person spoke up in a low, mellow voice that was as rich and elegant as a cello, "A very important person."

How important is it? Lin Ke didn't dare ask again, because she found that Yuan Zhi's hand holding the steering wheel was so tight that it had lost all its blood color.

After sending Lin Ke to school, he drove around the city for a few laps and then turned his head to go somewhere.

The road kept changing, and the surrounding things began to take on a long-familiar familiarity, finally stopping in front of a small Western-style house.

The small garden in front of the door is withered and unrecognizable, the small wooden chair that He Sheng used to sit on is covered with a thin layer of moss, and the lock on the door is also dusty. After three years of separation, this place is depressed and has no human atmosphere at all.

After moving away, this was his first time back. As he opened the door and stepped inside, the air in the house was thick with a musty smell, and the furniture that had once been familiar now seemed cold and distant.

She turned around and went upstairs, one step at a time, finally stopping in front of He Song's room.

Turn the handle, and diagonally opposite is a desk. Suddenly, it seems to see that clever and obedient girl sitting there doing her homework with her head down. Hearing the sound, she turns around with a bitter face, "Yuan Zhi, this won't work."

"Stupid!" he said, and then his smile froze before it had even fully unfolded.

He Shuang left in summer, so until now there is only one bamboo mat and a flat pillow on the bed.

Next to the bed are the so-called relics they sent after the accident, none of which are intact. Several pieces of clothing with bloodstains, and that big purple plush bear with half its head burnt off.

That winter he carried the bear and led He Song back home. The bear was still there, but He Song had already disappeared for three years.

  She's still alive, great!

Yuan Zhi suddenly knelt down, his body touching the ground making a dull sound, his pale face looked disheveled and unwell, his throat made gurgling sounds, he was in great discomfort, so uncomfortable that he didn't know what to do, and this discomfort came from extreme excitement.

He knelt down and after a while, without worrying about the mess, slowly leaned forward and lay flat on the ground.

  He Sheng!

The sky gradually darkened, and before I knew it, it had turned pitch black. The only light in the room came from the streetlights outside, which faintly seeped in, barely illuminating the blurry outlines of objects inside.

He didn't know how long he kept this posture, and when he opened his eyes again, the first thing he did was call Gu Wei.

"I want to see her." He said in a low voice.

Gu Wei naturally knew who he was talking about, holding his cup and sitting on the sofa. "He Shou Si scolded you badly this afternoon. Why didn't you say you wanted to see He Song then? I reckon that kid wouldn't have been so angry."

"He didn't react in time." He turned over, lying on his back, staring blankly upwards, his throat so sour he could barely squeeze out a sound, "Did you really see her?"

  "Uh-huh."

  "Is there someone beside her?"

Gu Wei looked at the clear steaming hot water in his cup and didn't answer directly, instead asking: "What do you plan to do?"

Yuan Zhi's Adam's apple rolled a few times, he raised his hand to cover his eyes, and in a tone that even he felt was unfamiliar, said: "She is mine, dare she try to go with someone else!"

  "Where's Lin Ke?"

  "She never existed."

The call was cut off, and Gu Wei stared at the screen that had suddenly turned black, unable to understand what he meant. It wasn't until a day later when Lin Ke met He Sheng that he finally understood. It turned out that these two people had the same round and gentle eyes, slightly upturned eye corners, and a warm and sweet smile that was uniquely beautiful.

Author's note: I'm going to die, I'm going to be stupidly killed, calculation error! I remembered that the chapter arrangement was good and it was supposed to be today's reunion, but now I just found out that it's actually in Chapter 66!!! Waaaahhhh!!!

To avoid disappointing everyone, I can only update three chapters today. However... please forgive me, as tomorrow may be a no-update day because I submitted my application last week and will likely have an interview on Thursday. The task list might be 20,000 words again, but I don't have that many words left... I'll review the remaining plot again to see if I can enrich it some more. If I can add more words, I'll still update tomorrow; otherwise, you know how it is!

Ahhhhh! I'm going crazy! I hate revising papers the most!
