Chapter Thirteen: The Skyward Bow

Xu Haifeng received the order and immediately rushed to the drill ground with Tong Yifeng and others.

The large camp is located five miles west of the city, and its the largest military camp on the western line. Its usually only open when high-ranking officials from the Ministry of War come to inspect the troops. Gu Dao chose this place specifically to test his bow, which was indeed unexpected by most people.

By the time they rushed to the drill ground, it was already half an hour later. Looking far away, I saw that the drill ground was crowded with people, and at least tens of thousands of soldiers had gathered here.

As he arrived at the school gate, Xu Haifeng was about to enter when he found that Qin Yong, who had been following closely behind him, suddenly stopped in his tracks. He looked back in surprise and saw that Qin Yongs gaze was fixed on a pair of bronze lions at the main entrance of the school field.

"What are you doing? Hurry up and leave." Xu Haifeng urged. If it were others who had drunk the blood wine, they would not have made such a move, because they only knew how to follow orders and would never have their own ideas. But Qin Yong and Zhe were different, the two of them maintained a high degree of autonomy and initiative, but also executed Xu Haifengs orders with precision. Although this was the case, they rarely took the initiative to do something, and such behavior was extremely rare at this moment.

"General, Ive lost my sword too. These two bronze lions seem to fit perfectly in hand." Qin Yong said with a silly grin.

Originally, during this period of time, Qin Yong drank blood wine every day, and his strength made a breakthrough to an unimaginable extent. The pair of copper hammers he had previously used had long been discarded by him. As he put it, how can you fight with a toothpick? However, the pair of copper hammers weighed a total of 300 kilograms, and even if Xu Haifeng used all his might, he could only barely lift one of them, let alone swing it around.

Looking at the two familiar bronze lions, each over a meter high, Xu Haifeng estimated that each weighed at least a thousand kilograms or so, but they were used to guard the camp, how could he possibly use them as sword hilts.

"This can be discussed later, lets go to the school field first and wait for the commander." Xu Haifeng frowned and led the way to the main stage. Qin Yong looked back at the bronze lion with reluctance, but still followed him. Tong Yifeng listened to their conversation without missing a word, staring blankly at Qin Yongs back, then turned his head to look at the two majestic bronze lions at the door, shook his head and cursed in his heart: "Madmen, they are really a group of madmen."

As soon as Haifeng Xu and others appeared, the crowd on the playground automatically cleared a path leading to the rostrum. At that moment, whispers rose like a swarm of bees. Although each persons voice was not loud, the voices of tens of thousands of people together were not to be underestimated. Haifeng Xu had never experienced such a scene before and felt cold sweat pouring down his back like rain, quickly soaking through even his underwear. As for Yong Qin and the other ten bodyguards, they followed closely behind, without any sign of being flustered.

Upon arriving at the rostrum, Xu Haifeng unexpectedly saw dozens of people already standing on stage. Among them, he only recognized one person, Fang Mingshen. However, upon taking a closer look at their attire and military insignia, he was shocked to discover that even the lowest-ranking officer among them was a deputy general, with several vice-generals present as well. It seemed that at least half of the main officers from the Western Fronts headquarters were in attendance. He instructed Qin Yong and ten of his personal guards to wait below the stage while he hastily ascended to the rostrum alongside Tong Yifeng, first paying respects to the gathered generals.

After the commotion subsided, Tong Yi was mixed in with the crowd of generals like a fish in water, feeling quite at ease. But Xu Haifeng was anxious because he didnt recognize anyone, so he secretly pulled over Fang Zhong and asked in private: "Brother, how did you also end up here? Has the commander arrived yet?"

"Im not here to watch the excitement, am I? Your Qin Yong is really something, he can even break the Wu Shi bow, amazing! How come theres no such talent among my subordinates?" Fang Xiang sighed with emotion.

"Big Brother is joking." Xǔ Hǎi Fēng smiled complacently and asked, "Big Brother, what is the Heavenly Bow? How can it stir up so many people?"

"Isnt this a grand scene? You little brat, youve never seen anything like it before, have you?" This time it was the turn of Fang Xing to speak with a self-satisfied tone. However, upon seeing Xu Haifengs nonchalant expression, he thought about how he had held out for over twenty days under the fierce attack of the Caesar people, and realized that there wasnt much he hadnt seen before. His enthusiasm immediately dampened, unaware that Xu Haifengs calm demeanor was just an act.

"Alright, big brother, quickly tell me about the Heavenly Bow now."

"Alright, Ill tell you. The Sky Piercing Bow was crafted by the skilled artisan Lv Daoshi a hundred years ago, and is said to be able to shoot down even the heavens, of course, thats assuming someone can draw it to its full extent."

"Master Lü? But thats the Master Lü Gongxian." Xu Haifeng was greatly shocked, although he had long suspected that the Kaitian Bow was extraordinary, but still didnt expect it to be from the hands of Master Lü, who was known as the greatest craftsman in history.

"It was Master Lü, a hundred years ago, in the southern region, a ferocious dragon suddenly appeared, triggering a flood disaster that occurs only once in a century. At that time, the five great masters of the empire joined forces and finally killed the dragon, stripping its skin and tendons. Later, the dragons tendons fell into Master Lüs hands, and he used a meteorite to forge the bows body, with the dragons tendons as the string. After ten years, he finally crafted this Heaven-Opening Bow. As soon as the bow was completed, Master Lü exhausted his energy and passed away six months later, leaving behind this bow as his final legacy in the mortal world."

Xu Haifeng thought back to the days when the Five Great Masters joined forces to vanquish evil, and his emotions were stirred, unable to calm himself.

  "General arrived..."

Xu Haifeng was like a dream come true, and he hastily paid his respects along with the others. Only then did he notice that there were several more people on stage, including Gu Daoxiong, Cheng Ming, Er Dongjie, and another general. Just by looking at him standing shoulder to shoulder with Gu and Er, he could tell that he was a man of great stature and not someone to be trifled with. Among the three top generals, apart from Er Dongjie, the only one who remained in Xijing was Zhang Jinzhong, the Grand Commander of the Tianying Military Region. This person was originally a regiment commander in the Tianying Military Region, but after Gu Daoxiongs promotion to Marshal, he was promoted to General and took over all matters related to the Tianying Military Region, making him one of Gu Daoxiongs most trusted generals.

"Today, everyone has gathered here for a reason which I wont elaborate on. Cheng Ming, pass down the order, the Heavenly Bow is right here. Whoever dares to challenge it, whether they are generals or ordinary soldiers, come and try to draw it. If you can draw the bow halfway, Ill reward you with 1,000 taels of silver. And if you can fully draw this bow, then you can take it away." Gu Dao Yan sat in the main seat amidst the crowds courtesy, saying: "Bring the bow here."

"Yes, student obey." Cheng Ming stood up to the front, and repeated Gu Daos words with a slight change. Then he stepped aside, behind him was a large black bow, its ancient shape was unremarkable, if not for personally hearing Gu Das words, Xu Haifeng would have had no idea that this was the legendary first divine bow.

The scene below suddenly caused a commotion, and a young commander stood out voluntarily. Looking at his military rank, he was actually a thousand-man commander.

This man was obviously highly respected in the military, and as soon as he stepped onto the stage, he triggered a wave of applause. After getting Gu Dao Yans consent, he stood in front of the bow, raised his hands flatly, and picked up the Heavenly Bow. It could be seen that his hands sank slightly, apparently the weight of this bow was beyond his expectation. But it was only a slight sinking, and he quickly adjusted his posture, with his feet in a horseback stance, his left hand holding the bow high, and his right hand grasping the string, which was the most standard archery posture. It could be seen that he did it so naturally, as if he had been a skilled archer for many years.

"Hah……" All he heard was a loud roar, his hands exerting force, and the Heavenly Bow slowly opened.

"Good......" The voices of encouragement from the audience were endless, and everyone hoped that he could draw his bow and win a breath for the big camp.

"Ah!" When the bow was drawn to one-third, his face was already flushed red, but he couldnt draw it back even a single millimeter. He persisted for a while, finally exhausting his strength, and immediately gave up.

The sighs under the stage rose and fell, all of them pitying him.

"Is there anyone else who wants to try?" Cheng Ming continued to ask.

  "Im coming..."

After all, this bow has not seen the sun for ten years. All the young and promising ones in the audience came up to try it out, but the best result was only about half full. After a dozen or so people tried, no one dared to come on stage easily again.

"General Xu, where is Qin Yong under your command? Why doesnt he come up and give it a try?" Gu Dao asked after waiting for so long without seeing the legendary brave warrior.

"Yes, let him try." Xǔ Hǎifēng hastily stepped down and invited Qín Yǒng.

When Qin Yong stood in front of the Opening Heaven Bow, everyones gaze on and off the stage fell on him at the same time. This was the legendary warrior who could pull apart the five-stone bow. If even he couldnt open it, then this bow might be impossible for anyone to open. At this moment, Qin Yongs great name had already spread among the soldiers, and the most admired in the army were such super warriors, all of whom placed their thick hopes on him.

Qin Yong was not affected by the gaze of tens of thousands of eyes, he casually picked up the Heaven-Opening Bow and pulled it apart to both sides without any pose.

The soldiers at the bottom of the platform were far away and couldnt be seen clearly, but the generals on the platform could see them so clearly that their eyes almost popped out.

Only to see Qin Yong, like doing a big chest expansion exercise, his arms stretched to the limit. The sky bow had already been pulled into a full moon and then became an ellipse, but this bow was indeed extraordinary, at this point it only slightly changed shape, neither the bow body nor the bowstring broke.

"Qin Yong, let go quickly." It was still Xu Haifeng who came to his senses first, fearing that he would accidentally break the bow in a moment of excitement, and it would be difficult to explain to General.

"Yes, General." Qin Yong responded with a loud voice, his right hand loosened, and the Sky Bow emitted a strong "humming" sound, jumping on his left hand, but Qin Yongs left hand seemed to be cast in iron, not moving at all.

  "Good..."

This time, the thunderous applause came from both on and off stage, echoing everywhere, even the venerable General Gu Daozi was full of praise.

"What a heroic warrior, Qin Yong! General, you are a man of your word. From today on, this bow will be yours!" Gu Daos words triggered another round of applause.
