Three Open School Reports

  Three, report for school opening

August 24 is the day of registration and reporting as indicated on the admission notice of Xihua Medical University.

Lin Fanghua finally persuaded her parents not to send her off to school. Probably due to her good behavior during the summer vacation, her parents felt that their daughter had grown up and become more sensible, so they agreed to let only her brother Lin Zhengyu, who was attending university in the same city, help her carry her luggage. The siblings took the institute's car down the mountain early in the morning, transferred to another car in the county town, and then headed to City C, finally arriving at school around 4 pm.

Lin Fanghua's parents accompanied her to university in her previous life, and they took care of everything from carrying luggage to helping with registration and settling into the dormitory. Now, as a twenty-year-old with independent living skills, she wouldn't let others do everything for her. She asked her older brother to help with her luggage while she took care of signing up, paying fees, filling out forms, registering at the local household office, picking up her dorm key, and buying school meal tickets. Everything was done efficiently within two hours.

As it happened, that day was also Lin Zhengyu's first day of school, so Lin Fanghua asked her brother to help carry her luggage to the dorm before hurrying off to attend to his own matters. She then went to the market outside the school's side gate and bought plastic basins, thermoses, and other daily necessities. On a whim, she stopped by the snack street and had a bowl of spicy and sour noodles, a local specialty that she hadn't tasted in years.

The best version of this dish was found at a small shop deep within the snack street, which added sesame seeds and peanuts to their recipe. Although it cost one more yuan than other shops, the flavors were not only spicy, sour, salty, and fresh but also fragrant. This was the consensus among her dorm-mates back in the day after they had tried every single shop on the snack street.

Lin Fanghua hadn't had such authentic spicy and sour noodles since graduating from university over a decade ago! Rebirth truly is wonderful!

Lin Fanghua hummed a tune with a pleasant mood, carrying those few daily necessities back to her own dormitory - Female Dormitory Building 1 Room 203.

Pushing open the door, the four girls chatting in the dormitory couldn't help but stop talking and look at Lin Fanghua in unison.

Lin Fanghua was taken aback, she had been busy rushing to handle things earlier and came in to put down her things before leaving, without even introducing herself to them. However, although it had been over a decade since they last met, she wasn't unfamiliar with them at all.

"Hey, everyone! I'm also living in this dorm room! I'm the one on the left side by the window, top bunk! My name is Lin Fanghua, and I was busy checking in earlier, didn't get a chance to say hi to you all!"

Four girls were infected by her smile and also smiled.

Liao Shan, who lives in Q City, the second largest city in the province, has fair skin and is tall. She said: "I saw you when I registered earlier. You're so great! So many procedures, but you finished them quickly. I came at 11 am this morning and it took me half a day to finish."

"Hehe, nothing much! I'm just a bit impatient, and besides, there are fewer people reporting in the afternoon anyway!"

The petite Wang Ju came from the countryside, but had a pair of eyes as big and bright as those of Zhao Wei: "Lin Fanghua, is your family from another province? Your Mandarin is extremely standard!"

What a shame! Lin Fanghua is actually ashamed of this. Both her parents are locals from S Province, and she was born and raised in S Province, but she can't speak the S Province dialect. It's because of the special nature of her parents' work unit, where most employees were northerners, and they all lived in the mountains for years, so the children of the institute staff spoke standard Mandarin regardless of their origin. Moreover, her parents rarely spoke dialect at home, which resulted in Lin Fanghua, a native S Province person, being unable to speak the S Province dialect - not something to be proud of.

She awkwardly explained the reason, then said seriously: "Fellow students, since we are all from S province, you must save this speechless girl! From now on, I will learn to speak dialect with you, and don't laugh at me!"

Wang Ju smiled and said: "Alright then, from now on I'll teach you dialect and you can teach me Mandarin. That way neither of us will be able to laugh at the other!"

Lin Fanghua nodded and thought: That's right, we two are going to be best friends from now on, how could I possibly laugh at you!

Several girls helped Lin Fanghua pack her things while chatting, and soon became familiar with each other. The other two girls were from county-level cities, named Huang Lixia and Sun Yanchun. These two people's names are similar in style, and their personalities are also gentle and quiet types, even their facial features and hairstyles have a few similarities. If it weren't for Huang Lixia being slightly taller, and Sun Yanchun wearing glasses, they would really be mistaken for twins.

In the early 1990s, the living conditions of this kind of university dormitory were not very good. There were eight people arranged in the dormitory. Liao Xuan said that there were also two girls who had relatives in the city and they didn't bring their luggage when they reported today. They would stay at their relatives' home tonight and come to live here tomorrow. These two were also children from the city, one named Yang Qian and the other named Guo Ling.

Because the school assigned dormitories with names posted on each bunk bed, everyone followed the rules and there was no conflict over bed assignments. It turned out that the girl named Zhou Yu, who lived in the upper bunk near the door, had not yet reported to the dorm. Several girls said that once everyone arrived, they could determine the order of seniority in the dormitory based on age. This is probably an unwritten rule in student dormitories. However, judging from what everyone already knew, it was most likely that Lin Fanghua, a 16-and-a-half-year-old freshman, would be ranked last. And indeed, that's exactly how it turned out.

But Lin Fanghua made up her mind, although I'm still young and ignorant, this time I won't be arrogant or reckless anymore, I will restrain myself with the norms of a grown-up, no longer wasting my youth and time.

The second day was for freshmen to continue registering and having physical examinations. Actually, everyone had already undergone strict physical examinations before the college entrance examination, so this time the physical examination procedure was relatively simple, mainly to vaccinate new students from various places with various vaccines.

The members of the dormitory finally arrived. Yang Qian, who was slightly chubby but had a outgoing and gentle personality, and Guo Ling, who had a slender figure and was quick-witted, both arrived in the morning for their physical examination. Zhou Yu, the oldest, didn't arrive until almost noon, with a dark complexion and deep facial features that gave her an somewhat Indian appearance. Due to living in a remote rural area, she encountered flooding on the road that delayed her, so she rushed to report at the last minute. As a repeat student from previous years, Zhou Yu was already close to 20 years old and considered one of the older students in the entire grade. Her capable and heroic image, walking into the room alone with a large wooden box in one hand and a bundle of bedding in the other, left a deep impression on her younger dorm-mates. Everyone sincerely acknowledged Zhou Yu as the eldest sister.

After reporting, it is one week of pre-school education.

On the first day, all freshmen of the 1990 class in the Clinical Medicine Department gathered at the No.1 cafeteria for their first grade meeting. As it was the largest department in school, with over 260 new students, only the cafeteria could accommodate so many people at once.

Lin Fanghua and her roommates finally met their grade leader, Ms. Guo Mei. She also graduated from this school and stayed on to work with students, serving as the secretary of the school's Communist Youth League and grade leader. In her thirties, she was neither tall nor short, neither fat nor thin, with a melon-seed-shaped face, beautiful eyebrows and eyes, and a shoulder-length curly hair tied into a single braid, exuding both maturity and youthful energy.

Guo Mei held the microphone, facing a sea of students below, loudly announcing various arrangements for after school started. These were all spoiled children who had just left their parents' side. From now on, whether they could truly become accomplished would depend on the school. The burden on her own shoulders was not light.

Lin Fanghua's dormitory is made up of classmates from the 1990 Clinical Medicine Department, Class 3. This freshman class has a total of nine classes, with around thirty people in each small class. Classes 1 to 6 are all five-year clinical medicine programs with the same curriculum, and are divided into two large classes: Classes 1-3 are considered one large class, and Classes 4-6 are considered another large class, taking big classes as a unit. Class 7 is a seven-year clinical medicine graduate program, Class 8 is a medical testing program, and Class 9 is a three-year Tibetan vocational program - the curriculum for these three classes is different, so they take classes in small units. In other words, Lin Fanghua will mainly come into contact with classmates from her own class, as well as often running into students from Classes 1 and 2 during class time; she will have less interaction with students from other classes.

There are 13 girls and 17 boys in our class, with a much higher proportion of girls than usual in science and engineering majors. In addition, there are five girls who have been assigned to different dormitories. As for the boys, they live in a separate male dormitory, which is quite far away, making it difficult to interact with them. Lin Fanghua had only visited the boys' dormitory twice during her five years at university. Therefore, in college life, the closest relationships are often with roommates from the same dormitory. As long as there's no major issue, living and eating together for four or five years can create a bond that's even stronger than that of siblings.

It's been a busy week and the pre-school education is coming to an end soon. On September 1st, Saturday afternoon, all freshmen put on the green military uniforms issued by the school's military training department (the classic People's Liberation Army uniform worn by Lei Feng, which was probably originally stocked up by the troops and now can't be used after changing uniforms, but it's just right for students' military training). They climbed onto a green open-top large truck with a liberation brand and drove to a certain field army base in the west of C city. They will usher in a month of hard and unforgettable military training life.

Lin Fanghua remembered that in his previous life, he only had military training in a unit of the Military Political Department in City C for two weeks. He didn't expect that after rebirth, he would actually be going to a regular field army unit for military training. Perhaps this different reborn life began from this trip to the military camp!
