Chapter 45: The city gate catches fire and the fish in the moat are affected.
It's still early, but there are already a few people in the classroom. To her surprise, Shu Zimo was also among them. He was scribbling something on the blackboard, erasing it after finishing, and then scribbling again, with a focused expression that made people think he was working on some complex problem. Qiao Anyu had never seen him so absorbed in something before, and she wondered what kind of trick he was up to this time.
Qiao Anyu had just sat down in her seat for a moment, the stool hadn't even warmed up yet, when she heard a series of "hmmph" and "haha" sounds, accompanied by the sound of the chair shaking and colliding with the floor. She looked up to see Shu Zimo putting down his chalk and punching and kicking at a chair, performing some kind of kung fu moves that he had apparently learned from who-knows-which martial arts novel.
Qiao Anyu furrowed her brow: Doesn't he have a moment of quietness? She got up to remind him to keep his voice down, as there were still people napping on their desks in class.
Walking up to him, not very close, but Qiao Anyu could still smell a hint of tobacco. Perhaps not long ago, Shu Zimo had sneaked off somewhere to secretly smoke again. She covered her nose and said with feigned disgust: "What's that smell on you? You're so big."
The man who was enthusiastically punching and kicking in front of her, Shu Zimo, stopped his movements when he heard her words, turned around, and with a proud yet disdainful expression on his face, replied to her: "Do you understand the taste of men?"
Seeing his serious look, Qiao Anyu couldn't help but burst out laughing: "Is the so-called masculine charm just a tobacco smell?"
"Not smoking or drinking doesn't count as a man. Indeed, it's a womanish way of thinking, long hair but short sight." He let out a soft snort, showing disdain.
"Here we go again with your nonsense. Spare me, I don't want to hear your rubbish. Can't you just keep quiet for once in the classroom? Other people need a nap too." She stood with her hands on her hips, exuding an air of confidence and righteousness typical of class cadres as she scolded him.
He raised an eyebrow and winked at her, saying: "Do you want to know how the chemistry teacher subdued Li Jinwei this morning? Today I learned a trick from the math teacher, it was really enlightening."
Before she could react, he swiftly used a complex yet agile method to knock the chair to the ground. The familiarity of his movements made it seem as if he had practiced them thousands of times. He straightened up and stood with a self-satisfied look on his face, gazing at her: "Not bad, huh? It's called 'Out of the Ordinary Victory'."
"How can you be so bloody and violent? You only learn the bad things, not the good ones. Smoking, drinking, thinking you're so powerful. Have you even read 'The Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils'? It's about heroic spirit of chivalry; but you use it to stir up trouble." Qiao Anyu was not only unimpressed by his performance, but also heavily criticized him.
"It's just like a chemistry teacher. Are you trying to humiliate me?" Shu Zimo didn't back down, and instead shot the words right back.
"Ah!" Qiao Anyu's face turned cold, and she didn't say another word to him. She strode straight towards the door, but suddenly collided with someone. When she looked up, her soul almost flew out of her body. The chemistry teacher stood there with a gloomy expression, and it was unclear how long he had been standing there. Perhaps their entire conversation with Shu Zimo had fallen into his ears without missing a single word.
She forgot that today just happened to be the chemistry teacher's turn on duty, and now things are in a mess.
Qiao Anyu and Shu Zimo were summoned to the teacher's office for a heart-to-heart talk over tea, punctuated by the chemistry teacher's angry roars.
Finally managed to endure the scolding, Qiao Anyu walked out of the office door with a dejected and disheartened expression. She looked at Shu Zimo, who was still carefree and radiant, and felt that as long as he was around, she would definitely be unlucky. Not to mention talking to him, which was simply a form of slow suicide. Qiao Anyu decided to remain silent whenever facing this jinx, Shu Zimo.
Shu Zimo glanced at her and said with a smile: "The feeling of being lectured isn't bad, right? Every time I enter the office, I feel like I'm the happiest person in the world, as if I've stepped into heaven on clouds. The teacher's desk is like soft white clouds, gentle and comfortable; the teacher's voice is like a ringing mountain spring, pleasant to listen to..."
Listening to his pretentious and sarcastic tone, seeing him with an unstoppable momentum, Qiao Anyu couldn't bear it anymore: "Enough! Shu Zimo, shut your big mouth! You have the leisure to engage in idle chatter, but I don't have the spare time to listen to your nonsense!" One sentence shattered the decision she had made just a minute ago.
He Shu Zi Mo was used to arguing, but unexpectedly couldn't hold back his temper and took her words lightly. Qiao An Yu said something she regretted as soon as it left her mouth. She pursed her lips and quickened her pace, leaving He Shu Zi Mo far behind.
