Chapter 33: The Friendship of Four People (Part Two)
"Awesome, you really did it! You actually managed to win over my mom." Qiao Anyu was extremely delighted.
"No choice, who made me look so kind? Unlike these two beside me, they have faces that sell women and children. Haha!" Coldly and refreshingly laughed.
"Go ahead and gloat for now, but be careful later when the two of us make a fortune and you'll be drooling with envy while counting our money." Gu Siyan said gently, with a hint of hidden sharpness.
"Can't you guys say something with actual meaning? We haven't even decided where to go yet. All you're saying is empty talk." Yu Shuang hastily stopped a war of words and woke up the other three people.
After some deliberation, they decided to walk through the whole town.
The town they lived in was not big, nor small. It would take a few hours to walk through it. Tonight's moon is quite shy, hiding behind the clouds from time to time and refusing to show its face. The streets of the town are lit with dim streetlights. On New Year's Eve, the shops on both sides of the street have not yet opened, and the doorsteps are littered with firecracker debris and paper ash, adding a few touches of desolation to this somewhat dark night, as if one can still hear the distant echoes of firecrackers and fireworks that had just been set off. Now before their eyes is a bleak scene after a grand spectacle. After extreme revelry, there is always a period of extreme silence.
There were not many pedestrians on the road, each with their own thoughts, hurrying along. The usually crowded and noisy streets were quiet on this festive day. It could finally take a breath and rest for a few days.
On the quiet street, four people chattered and laughed, their joyful voices filling the air.
It was unclear when it started, but all the streetlights were broken, and there were no residents on either side, only fields, with a bridge in the distance. Under the faint light of the moon peeking through the clouds, they continued to move forward with difficulty, their hearts filled with anxiety. All four of them were afraid of the dark.
"After crossing this bridge, I can reach the bottom of Xu Xiao's building." Gu Siqi was the most timid, and she said this to encourage herself.
Then walk a little further, and you can reach Su Yuzhe's doorstep. Qiao Anyu also had a drum in her heart, so she could only follow Gu Sichen's train of thought to cheer herself up.
"What about Yufang and me? Without our destined partners, what can we use as our spiritual pillars?" Leng Bing was both annoyed and amused by the two of them. Can a made-up talisman really be relied on?
"You guys warm each other up then," said Qiao Anyu, and she burst out laughing. This laugh suddenly eased the tense atmosphere a lot.
When they walked to the bridge, it was almost dark enough to use the phrase "can't see five fingers in front of you". There wasn't a single pedestrian around, and the distant lights looked so blurry, like clusters of will-o'-the-wisps. On both sides were fields, and the cold wind howled above the empty space, suddenly increasing their fear.
"You say, we are like or not like the female ghosts who have drunk Meng Po's soup and walked on the Naihe Bridge..." Before she could utter the word "ghost", her cold lips were simultaneously covered by two hands.
"I'd really like to use Meng Po's soup to make you forget that you're walking on the Naihe Bridge." Qiao Anyu had originally intended to ease the atmosphere, but unexpectedly, she too was covered by another two people.
"Tell a joke, Xian, you go first," Yu Shuang suggested.
"What's so funny?" Gu Siqi asked.
"Stop it, stop it." Qiao Anyu hastily intervened, "It's already cold enough, if you keep telling cold jokes, we'll all freeze to death."
"Yu Liang, your words are even colder than the weather." Leng Bing wouldn't let go of any opportunity to speak, and as soon as her mouth was freed, she immediately blurted out her words.
"By the way, I don't have any jokes, but I do have a big scoop of gossip. Do you guys want to hear it?" Gu Siyan said mysteriously, obviously trying to pique everyone's interest and whet their appetite.
