Chapter 3

With a subtle hand gesture, the UN Chair signaled his approval of the U.S. proposal. Without hesitation, the discussion moved forward, and UN Secretary-General Andre Reyes took the floor.

"We're facing an unprecedented crisis," Andre said, his voice filled with concern. "Our teams are working tirelessly to assess the damage, but it's becoming clear—we’re dealing with something far beyond what we had anticipated."

Robin Astana, the UNDRR Chief, stood, his expression somber. "I've seen my share of devastating disasters, but this... this is unlike anything I've ever encountered. Our technology is failing us, and we're being forced to rely on manual methods. It feels like we’re being sent back in time."

A brief silence followed before Yonas Tekle, WHO Director-General, spoke up, his tone gravely serious. "The health implications are dire. We’re receiving reports of injuries, illnesses, and... much worse. Our teams are doing everything they can, but we need more resources, more support. Fast."

Mateus Oliveira, the UNDP Administrator, nodded in agreement. "We’re doing everything we can to address immediate needs, but we must begin planning for the long-term consequences. We need to focus on recovery, rebuilding—not just surviving."

As the meeting drew to a close, Andre Reyes gave a final, decisive nod. "We have a monumental task ahead of us, but I am confident that, together, we can make a difference. Let’s get to work."

With that, the meeting was adjourned.
